Normally my weight has been pretty steady - but last autumn it decided to grow - the midriff decided to expand. And it has yet to go decrease.
 
 About the same time, my eldest joined a gymnastics club at a sports center, and I finally signed up for the gym there.
 
 I also need to get some dumbells to work with - I had actually filled some 6 pint milk cartons with water to work with in the meantime, but they have a nasty habit of leaking and deforming. I've stopped using those because I'm not convinced that the weight is properly distributed across my hands and I certainly don;t want to damage those!
 
 So I'm looking out for something - was in a fitness shop yesterday, but they didn't have any 5kg dumbells, which is what I'd rather start with.
 
 Anyway, anyone else here doing any weight-training or fitness of any sort? If so, what you are actually focussing on? I'm trying to build up upper body strength primarily - just tone up first.

All I do is play football once a week and go on the occasional run.  I'm doing the Great North Run (again) later in the year, so will have to get my act together and actually do some training for it this time.

Running probably isn't a good idea around here, as I'm living in a city. Smiley
 
 Finally got some dumbells from Argos, though - I'm trying to make sure I use them for at least 15 mins twice a day, and so far so good. Smiley
 
 There's a good psychological effect from it as well. Smiley

Yes - it's not just the eating by itself - exercise required too. Smiley
 
 And well done on the weight loss - presuming you weren't 8 stone to begin with, it sounds like a hefty achievement - well done! Smiley

 Was 15-16 stone :\ - Always been a stocky lad, last year or so though it was getting a bit bad.  Decided to do something about it.

I should really be taking some sort of regular exercise really to counteract this sedentary occupation.  My bright idea was to go to dance classes, the idea being I could learn a few dance moves and get in the company of the fairer sex (sort of killing two birds with one stone!). However I still haven't managed to pluck up the courage to go along to my local salsa club!
 
 So in the meantime, I'm trying to get in regular walks, the occasional cycle ride, and cut down on the beer.. which I think is a big influence on your calorie intake.
 
 Any single females out there looking for a salsa dance partner, get in touch okay? Wink

Hey, dancing is a great idea - I once went through a local drama course, and did some dance. Smiley
 
 As for working out - I was going to the gym when my daughter was doing gymnastics on a Friday - but now she's been moved up a group - and it's on a Thursday. The gym is commandeered by heart op recovering patients, and the swimming pools are closed to the public. So...no gym or exercise at the sports center. Sad And just after I bought all the kit stuff as well. Smiley

Kit stuff? You haven't got those gloves with the suede palms for pumping weights have you? Smiley
 
 I'm determined to get that dancing thing going.. I'll keep you posted on my progress. In the meantime, I'm looking after a friend's dog while they're away on holiday.. two walks a day is more exercise than I'm used to!! LOL!! Smiley

Heh, I'd just bought trainers, vest, shorts - before then I was in flowered flowered trousers and doc martin type boots!
 
 As for walking dogs - I hear that if you walk them without the lead you get to burn more calories... Wink

yep, i make it a point to exercise on my own everyday--about 15-25 minutes.  i read from a magazine that it's better to exercise for a few minutes everyday than exercising for a long period of time once a week.

I try to keep myself up and down at work. I sit occasionally and then I get up for awhile. I am going to work in more exercise once my schedule lets up in the next week or so.
