Hi everyone, I am new here, looking to learn a thing a two from you guys!
I signed up with a free host for their free hosting service and their requirement is that they'll be putting ads using something called mod_layout thru their server. Well, I have not much idea about it, but I search thru the net and most free host are having the same requirement. I guess they need to earn some money in return for the service they giving me. Well, it's a win-win situation.

However, I tried to install a IPB script (licensed and legal, bought it). It seems that the script is in conflict with the forced ads/mod_layout as I couldn't see anything on my site except a blank page with their ads only. I believe I have installed correctly, and I asked the IPB for support. Their reply is that I'll need to work it out with my host as this is something to do with the mod_layout having conflict or error with the script.

Nevertheless, my host said that I need to turn off "gzip" or something like that. Any  host or kind soul could help to guide me on troublshooting this?

Thanks.

well, I stil have no luck in trying to solve this problem. Instead of dragging on it, I use phpBB now. It is more straight forward as the "gzip" can be easily turn off during installation process. Cheesy

Now I have my forum up and running using phpBB.
