To test your site in various browsers? It used to be just IE and Netscape. Are you optimizing for the newer browsers now?

I develop all websites for all the browsers. people do use different browsers to surf the web. Who am I to tell them "best viewed with IE" or "best viewed with mozilla firefox". I mean hey: we have to create user friendly sites.  Smiley

I remember the days when we optimized for IE or Netscape and included a message like that on the site. In fact, that's what prompted this reminder. A younger site with such a message.

yes, I still see a lot of theese, especially flash sites.
for example: to view this site you need macromedia flash!
I mean: please! if they are up to make a flash site for the fun of it, why not also a pure html version to improve my user experience and not make me waste my time?

Yeah, right... LOL!

But you know, although I do like Flash (there are some AMAZING flash sites out there) most of the sites I see are purely boring. They just... "flash". And that's not enough: they even have some crappy sounds, to complete the package. What's the use? Really? How is a "jingle" going to make me want to browse a Flash site? Or any site? Especially when the sound is loud and sudden. OH, MY GOD!

Yeah, sometimes the simplest concepts seem to escape the people who most need to understand them.

I have tested in IE (which is what I use) and Firefox, but I know I have to test in Opera too.  What are the others that you should test in?

If some people can't view my site, I won't get any sales from them, will I?

BrowserCam is a good site to test a lot of browsers / operating systems at once.

oh, more often than not, i proceed to my next search when i see that message on a page!! aaargh.. i wouldn't want to go through the hassle of downloading the latest version of this or that just to view an article.
