Using Discounts and Coupons

Does anyone else use coupons or discounts to your ecommerce store as a an advertising method?  I was considering how a 10% off your first order (for example) coupon would work. 

One point I considered is that I could have the coupon listed at coupon and discount sites or forums on the web, thus increasing the exposure of my site.

I have seen some merchants doing this - and yes, it will get me to probably buy their product (if everything is cheaper than Store A).  Personally, I like the bulk discounts instead.  For example, we buy shampoo probably once a year from a store.  We buy all our hair care products from them and they give us a bulk discount and a previous customer discount.

I have not seen this method enough, and I would also have to say that a simple coupon is a great way to advertise, and will probably have lots of people flowing in.

That is a wonderful idea to get buzz and customers. Coupon sites are excellent tools for ecommerce sites to find out about your goods and services! Plus, you don't have to fight to get them included.
